COVID-19: Free collection / delivery service

Providing support to vulnerable people or those who require additional assistance

1Call Property Maintenance Ltd is one of the largest domestic, commercial and industrial maintenance companies in the north east, and their white vans are a frequent sight on the streets of Aberdeen and Shire.

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing transport issues across the region and limiting access to groceries and other supplies, it has been a difficult time for many – a situation that 1Call has worked to ease by providing additional assistance.

Under lockdown restrictions, the Bridge of Don based company is permitted to attend emergency and essential works, so maintenance jobs continue in special cases – but they have also made their vans available to provide a free collection/delivery service for organisations providing support to vulnerable people or those who require additional assistance.

This service has helped reduce strain on organisations offering support in the community and reduced the need for anyone to break self-isolation to pick up essentials – and their vans enable them to make multiple deliveries across the region in a single trip.

One organisation who have benefited from 1Call’s logistical support is Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), who are responding to requests for emergency food deliveries across the region and can now get vital supplies out to people quickly and with greater convenience.

Lisa Duthie, Chief Executive of CFINE, said “In response to the coronavirus outbreak, CFINE continues to maintain a contact-free emergency food delivery service for those self-isolated individuals and families who are food insecure. The demand for our support services has tripled, distributing over 1,500 emergency food parcels weekly with the help of our partners.

“I would like to express my appreciation to 1Call and their team for helping us deliver essential food and non-food items to vulnerable people during these unusual times, fantastic gesture!

“The cooperation of organisations and groups like 1Call alleviates the pressure on our staff and volunteers, therefore, allowing us to provide a lifeline to more people facing difficulty.“

Harry Kerr, 1Call Director, said: "Over the past twelve weeks we have completed over 1,394 deliveries for CFINE, and we are only too happy to continue lending a hand where we can – it’s really important that everyone do their bit at times like this, while keeping everyone as safe as possible.”
